About the artist

Philip Fogarty is a composer, performer and sound artist. His output ranges from Irish traditional roots to electronica and contemporary, including live sound art, interactive pieces and multimedia installations. He is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and sound designer, and has toured his work with live ensembles in various configurations both in Ireland and abroad.

Recent projects include The Skies are Empty (2020), a pandemic-era collaboration with cellist Yseult Cooper Stockdale; Three Dream Echo (2020), a live audience participation event harnessing pandemic restrictions and first performed as the flagship event for Galway Culture Night 2020; and I Claim Sanctuary, an interactive sound installation to be staged later this year along with the Elaine Agnew and Jessica Traynor penned Paper Boat, an opera presented by Music for Galway and Irish National Opera.

Philip is ideator of the Galway Cello, a new instrument for which Bill Whelan has composed a special orchestral piece to be premiered in March 2021. He lectures occasionally in NUI Galway and has studied under the auspices of renowned sean-nós singer Lillis Ó Laoire.
