About the artist

Emily Brennan is a 25 year old visual artist and facilitator from Lanesborough, Co. Longford. Born into a farming family, Emily realised her love of art towards the end of secondary school and decided to take a one year portfolio preparation course in Liberties College, while deferring an offer on a Bachelor's degree in Dairy Business, UCD. She then went on to study Fine Art in DIT, now Technological University Dublin. During her time in DIT, Emily developed an interest in video work and focused her final year on shooting a short film about a forgotten Longford landmark. Gaia told the story of Atlantic Mills, a denim factory, which operated on the shores of the river Shannon for many years and its subsequent environmental impact. These themes continue to run through Emily’s practice today with much of her work focused on rural human geography and the environment.

Following graduation, Emily and two fellow classmates founded BKB Visual Arts Studio, Glasnevin, in June of 2019. BKB today provides 11 artists with studio space, a workshop and a gallery space. Following the success of the studio, Emily has accepted a place in the Cultural Policy and Arts Management Masters course, UCD, Which will commence September 2021.
