Darren Donohue is an award-winning playwright and poet. His plays are developed/produced with the Abbey Theatre (Dublin), Irish Repertory Theatre (New York), the Keegan Theatre (Washington D.C.), Piccolo Teatro (Milan), Bread and Roses Theatre (London).
His work garnered a number of awards including the Bread and Roses Playwriting Award and Radius Playwriting Prize, in association with Finborough Theatre. Darren also received the Dennis O’Driscoll Literature Award from Kildare County Council.
Recently, his play I and the Village received its world premiere at the Bread & Roses Theatre, London. Revealing the harsh reality of life inside the Irish Direct Provision system I and the Village received an Offie nomination – the respected off West End theatre awards.
Last September, his play Taxi Light Vigil received its world premiere at the Piccolo Teatro, Milan. His latest play – Mushroom is currently being developed at the Keegan Theatre, Washington D.C.
Darren is a former participant on the Irish Theatre Institute’s Six in the Virtual Attic programme and his writing interest are represented by Camilla Young, Curtis Brown.
His debut poetry collection titled Secret Poets was published by Turas Press in May 2022.
